In his remarks to the scholars, Rabbi Shriki chose to broaden the customary perspective and emphasized the shared human destiny among peoples, even when political conflicts and security tensions exist between them. He noted the importance of distinguishing between governments and policies on the one hand, and ordinary civilians on the other, people who seek to live in security, dignity, and hope for a better future.
Rabbi Shriki spoke about the need for drawing hearts closer, about a spiritual responsibility that does not stop at geographical borders, and about the role of Jewish prayer as a force that seeks healing rather than revenge, peace rather than hatred. He stressed that within Jewish tradition there is a moral obligation to see every human being as a creation made in the Divine image, even when political reality attempts to obscure this truth.
At the conclusion of his words, the rabbi led a shared prayer, recited with deep intention, for the safety of the Jews of Iran and Iranians who support Israel, for regional calm, and for a future in which the Israeli and Iranian peoples may look at one another not through the aim of weapons, but through the possibility of shared and stable life in the Middle East.
